GAS SCARE HITS ATLANTA
Tue Aug 2005 30 22:23:23 ET

Metro Atlanta drivers are facing the possibility of paying considerably more than $3 a gallon for gas by Labor Day — if they can get it at all, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting Wednesday.

The two pipelines that bring gasoline and jet fuel to the region are down — powerless to pump as Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on electrical infrastructure.

The metro Atlanta region generally has about a 10-day supply of gasoline in inventory, said BP spokesman Michael Kumpf. The pipelines have been down for two days.

Alpharetta, Ga.-based Colonial Pipeline Co., cut off from its suppliers on the Gulf Coast, is now pumping gas from huge storage tanks, many in Powder Springs, Ga. Whether electric power can be restored to the pipeline pumps before supplies run out is “the great uncertainty … that hangs over all of us,” said Daniel Moenter, a spokesman for Marathon Ashland Petroleum, a major supplier of metro Atlanta’s fuel.

can’t sleep

Filed under: main — Andy @ 1:04 am

i can’t sleep. which sucks because i have to be up early tomorrow (wait, that’s today now). it always seems to happen that when i set my alarm to be awake at a certain time, it makes me not sleep…but if i don’t set me alarm and know i can wake up whenever, i’ll only sleep like 4 hours and be up and ready to go before i could possibly have to be somewhere. the matter is being compounded by someone’s yippy little shit of a dog that won’t stop barking. i mean honestly, if i can hear it at my house, they have to be able to hear it in their own yard. and who keeps their dogs outside all the time? that just seems mean to me…of course this coming from someone who currently has almost two hundred pounds of dog sleeping in his bed right now (they’re both asleep on the bed, while i can’t sleep at all).
at first i was thinking that i wanted a power boat, but now that i’ve been thinking about it, a sailboat might be more fun. i’d want one that i could sleep on, you know with a little galley maybe…and room for a few people to sleep in it. that would be fun. i will probably start out (power or sail) with a cheap boat to see how much i’ll use it. but if i get into it, this one looks awesome! sailing seems a little more sophisticated than power boating, but i think they’d both be fun. if i had a sailboat i’d probably have to keep it at a marina, which costs money. but i was thinking about it and i’d probably spend $50 in gas everytime i went out on the power boat, and that could add up to over $200/month. i think i can get a sailboat wetslip at a marina for less than that, in fact i am almost positive i could. there’s this one that’s only $1500 and it comes with a trailer…i have no idea what the interior looks like, and it’s 25 years old, but it still might be fun…and it’s so cheap! even if i had to spend some money to fix it up and repaint, etc, it could still be a good deal.

well, i guess i’ll go lay (or lie, i can never remember that rule) back down and watch some tv and hopefully fall asleep before i have to be up at 7…
i need to hang out with people this week, i was a hermit last week when i was sick and i feel like i haven’t seen anyone in forever!
